Jakarta, 16 November 2017—Last night (15/11) is the awarding day of EY Indonesia Entrepreneur of the Year 2017. The award is bestowed to honor the most outstanding entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership, and achievement. Robby Gunawan is listed as one of the seven finalists, representing PT Indesso Aroma, a company founded by his late father, Robertus Hartanto Gunawan almost 50 years ago. Started humbly as a clove oil distiller in Baturraden, PT Indesso Aroma is now a world leader in clove oil and its derivatives production with around 60% of world market share. “It is an honor for me to be nominated as the finalist of EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 award. This nomination will not be possible without the hard work of all the teams at Indesso and the support of all our stakeholders.”
Under 10 years of Robby’s leadership, the company has quadrupled in terms of sales and has been continuously investing in R&D, manufacturing technology, integrated ERP, and quality system. He has successfully led the company through a global economic crisis in 2008 and the raw material challenges due to the chaotic weather pattern. Through his involvement in Dewan Atsiri Indonesia, he is also actively working with other stakeholders in our industry, promoting sustainable business practices, knowledge building, and developing better regulatory environment.
Products of Indesso have been exported to more than 40 countries around the world. This achievement has brought the company the prestigious Primaniyarta Award from the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia as the best performing exporters for 6 times.
